What's new

Introducing RefinedWiki Original Theme 4.0

We’re super excited to bring you one of our biggest releases yet. It’s packed full of new features that make Confluence even easier to use. Here are a few of the highlights:

Global sidebar

We love easy, practical navigation, which is why we've introduced a new global sidebar to Original Theme 4.0. The menu can be viewed in three different modes: Always open, always closed or responsive - i.e adaptable depending on the window size.

Easy dashboard editor

We've developed a new editor that makes laying out dashboards a breeze. No more wiki-markup skills required - now anyone can edit their dashboard how they like.

With the new editor simply drag and drop whatever you want wherever you want - add new sections, remove headers, include footers - it’s up to you. You can edit dashboards, category dashboards, user dashboards and even space layouts.

Start with one of our predefined templates and then use the Confluence macro browser to add macros or add custom content using the Confluence editor. Then move the content around until you have the layout you want.

Editing space layouts is easy too

The new dashboard editor can also be used to edit space layouts in exactly the same way as for the dashboard. There are a number of other space options including show/hide the space logo, comments, child pages and more.

The space layout editor comes with two space templates with tailored settings and layout options, one for documentation and one for public facing pages. There’s also a default template or you can create your own custom layout.

You can also create your own custom layout.

Two new footer columns

The footer has been extended to include two new columns:

The Blog column for latest blog posts, news from specified spaces or from all configured blogs, or even from all your confluence users.

In the Custom HTML column you can add HTML code to include your own widgets.

Introducing RefinedWiki Original Theme 4.1

In this release we’re introducing new features, where two of them are improved performance by improving the caching behavior and we’ve also made Original Theme Confluence Data Center Ready.

Data Center Ready

Large instances of Confluence demands a lot from the server and the software running on it. When Atlassian identified the need for great performance they answered by introducing Data Center. RefinedWiki’s mission is to make Confluence the best user-experience possible, and a great user-experience demands good performance, which is why we’re always keen on improving our performance. RefinedWiki Original Theme add-on is now compatible with Data Center.

Cache is king

To improve the performance we have worked with improving the structure of our plugin resources by improving the server side caching and structure. This together with a system that allows us to minimize the amount of server requests and calculations would allow for an optimized performance and a greatly enhanced user experience. So the cache solution is done in two steps; one part of the system on the server, and one for the users on the front-end.

The Original Theme Cache Management is our front-end answer to the ever-increasing demand in performance. This feature adds the option to enable caching of Original Theme resources for all users. Using localStorage, the system allows for instant access to cached resources for each user without needing to send a request to the server. This effectively reduces the number of request made to the server regarding all our main resources. It also means that we free up computational time on the server.

The cache is kept updated at all times by only fetching new updated content when there's been a change to the instance regarding that resource. This means no outdated resources served from the cache, and much faster load times for macros, dashboards, and navigation menus. This leaves an improved, more responsive user experience.

Introducing RefinedWiki Original Theme 4.2

We’re excited to introduce a new feature making it simpler to see who’s working on what and who’s responsible for the different content in Confluence. Other new features includes customizable subcategory dashboards, improved category and space organizer etc

Easily find out who’s responsible for the content

You can add users and user groups to categories and subcategories to easily see team members and find out who’s responsible for the content. For example you might have a marketing category - simply click on it to see who’s responsible for the content and what their specific role is. You can also assign roles to a user and they are totally customisable, so you can create tailored roles to suit your organization.

Assign users to a space

In the same way as you can assign users to categories and subcategories you can also assign individual users or user groups to spaces. Macros can be used to show the team responsible for a product space. This makes it really easy to find out who’s working on every project in your organization. Maybe you need to get in contact with the Tech Lead for a product - just take a look in the product space and you’ll see a list of who’s on the team.

Tailor subcategory dashboards

With this latest version it’s possible to create customized dashboards for each subcategory. So now each team can have a dashboard tailored with Confluence macros. Add team calendars, news, activity streams and lots more to set up each subcategory exactly the way you want it.

Improved category & space organizer

The Organize spaces & categories function for administrators is now faster as you can rearrange multiple spaces at the same time. There's also a new search filter for finding the spaces faster.

Assign category administrators

You can now add users as Category administrators. A Category admin will be able to edit the category dashboard and organize users into the category and it's subcategories.

There are lots of other surprises and new features waiting for you in v4.2, so go check it out!
